Distributor of BT solutions and services DMSL is at the centre of a row over BT Business' OnePlan Inclusive offer for smaller firms. The distributor released a controversial statement on December 1st that sparked an outbreak of complaints from angry comms resellers resulting in a letter to the regulator calling for action to be taken against what was claimed to be 'flagrant mis-selling'.
According to the DMSL press release, subscribers to BT Business OnePlan Inclusive only pay £15 per month for each line and always know exactly what their costs are going to be 'no matter how many calls they make'.
This misleading statement caused consternation among a number of fixed line resellers who were up in arms over what they saw as 'the predatory nature of this offer', branding the promotion as 'incredibly misleading marketing'.
However, BT told trade magazine Comms Dealer that it ensures customers know that a fair usage policy applies. In a statement addressed exclusively to Comms Dealer, BT confirmed, 'the wording in the DMSL press release dated 01 Dec which implied that customers of BT Business One Plan Inclusive need never pay for a call again was not endorsed or approved by BT'.
DMSL also clarified the matter for Comms Dealer readers in a statement: 'Wording in the DMSL press release was not endorsed or approved by BT. BT clearly communicated that a fair usage policy applies'.
DMSL is planning to run a nationwide marketing campaign targeting small businesses and start-ups with BT Business OnePlan Inclusive to generate leads for resellers. These will be passed directly to local BT Partners
So be aware, BT Partners are not BT. They are local businesses that are franchaised to be able to use the BT logo and sell BT products and services. If you are unsure about any approach or offer please check with Logical before you even take the call - they have also been know to implement "implied contracts" just from telephone conversations!!.
